Wood can be generally categorizes according to their hardness and softness.
Softwood – Softwood is source of about 80 % of world’s timber production. Redwoods, pine, fir, cedars, larches, hemlock, Douglas-fir, longleaf fir, yew, balsam fir, redcedar, spruce, etc are good sources of softwood. Yew is an example of hard softwood.
Hardwood – Hardwood is wood from angiosperm trees. Hardwoods are not necessarily harder than softwoods. Some hardwoods (for example, balsa) are softer than softwoods. Many hardwoods are much harder than any softwood. Hardwood is used in various applications such as construction, furniture manufacturing, flooring, cooking, utensils, etc. Trees like oak, cherry, apple, teak, basswood, birch, Blackwood, chestnut, corkwood, cottonwood, balsam poplar, dogwood, Lyptus, Ironwood, Pear, rosewoods, Sal, walnut, bamboo, coconut, etc are good source of hardwoods.
Teak Wood : It ranges from dark brown to yellowish brown in colors. It has a contrasting grainy structure due to having mineral streaks. Oily in texture, teak wood is a strong and durable wood. Teak wood is very popular for making various kinds of furniture pieces.
Cherry Wood : Cheery wood in generally reddish brow or light pinkish in color. When this wood is polished it becomes glowing and deep red. It is used to make all minds of furniture pieces such as chairs, tables, cabinet, etc.
Maple Wood : Maple wood is generally snowy-white or cream white in color. You can also find yellowish maple wood during the off season. Rock maple is one of the hardest woods.
Sheesham Wood : Sheesham wood is also known as Indian rosewood. It is fast-growing hardwoods. It is used for making almost all kinds of furniture due to their qualities. They are durable and can be easily carved to prepare various shapes of furniture pieces in various designs.
Oak Wood : Oak is a good source of hardwoods. It is durable and has quality of bending easily. It finishes well and resists moisture absorption. It is good four making furniture, trimming, wooden desks, flooring and boat farming.
Pine Wood : Pine Wood has uniform texture. It is very easy to work with this wood. It finishes well. It is widely used in making furniture, house construction, molding, making wooden boxes, paneling, etc.
Fir Wood : Fir wood also has uniform texture. It has low resistance to decay. It works easy and finishes well. It is used for making furniture, doors, wooden frames, windows, plywood, etc.
Cedar Wood : Cedar Wood is generally reddish in color. It has sweet odor. It is very easy to work with. It is uniform in texture and resistant to decay. It is used for chest making, dock planks, Venetian blinds, novelties, posts, etc.
